Best Grabber Tool for Elderly

GrabbersTool Frequently Asked Questions: Product, Shipping, and Use

The most common questions GrabbersTool customers ask before and after purchase are answered here, covering product specifications, correct use, and ordering information for the Reacher Grabber and Electric Jar Opener.

Reacher Grabber Questions

What is the difference between the 32-inch and 43-inch reacher?

The 32-inch reacher is the standard length, appropriate for average-height users (roughly 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 10 inches) for floor retrieval from a standing position. The 43-inch reacher is for taller users (over 6 feet 2 inches), wheelchair users (whose lower seated position changes the reach geometry), and patients for whom the 32-inch does not reach the floor comfortably from an upright posture. See the 32-inch Reacher and 43-inch Reacher pages for detailed specifications.

How much weight can the reacher pick up?

The standard rated capacity is 5 lbs. This covers most everyday dropped items -- phones, remote controls, clothing, lightweight packaged food. Do not use the reacher to pick up heavy pots, full liquid containers, or anything exceeding the rated capacity.

Can I use the reacher with one hand?

Yes. The pistol-grip trigger design is operated by single-hand squeeze. This makes the reacher suitable for one-handed users, post-surgical sling periods, and applications where the other hand is needed for balance or support.

Is the reacher safe to use outdoors or in the garden?

Yes, the aluminum shaft and non-corrosive construction make outdoor use appropriate. Rinse the jaw pads if exposed to soil or garden chemicals, and dry the tool after wet conditions.

Electric Jar Opener Questions

What jar lid sizes does the electric opener fit?

The GrabbersTool Electric Jar Opener fits standard jar lid sizes from 1.5 to 4 inches in diameter. This covers the majority of standard food jar sizes. Very small specialty jar lids (under 1.5 inches) or very large industrial lid sizes are outside this range.

Does it open vacuum-sealed jars?

Yes. The device is designed for vacuum-sealed glass jars -- the most difficult jar type and the type most likely to be impossible for people with grip weakness. Position the opener on the lid, activate, and the tool turns the lid until the vacuum seal breaks.

Is it battery-powered or rechargeable?

See the Electric Jar Opener product page for current power specifications.
